Most likely someone searching this is expecting gigantic waves. There is a "huge wave" season that goes from October to March. The waves are still impressive in off season though. The lighthouse is an old fort now mostly dedicated to surf culture.

Fab place to watch the biggest waves in the world! The ladders to the lower section is only advisable if you're fit and sure footed and I'd also advise caution if the waves are above 25 feet as they can sometime reach the lower section! Can be windy so take warm clothes and a hat.

Great view - wind can be very strong, but then you want to be there when the seas are very rough - to see those big surfing waves.

Lovely place. Car park at top mental.Drove down to lighthouse in campervan. Costs money to go into lighthouse - not worth it. Take rocks and ledges to right. You are sure to get splashed at high tide

Nazare is a big wave surfing Mecca, hosting major competitions through the year. The fort on the headland is a good location from which to watch the surfers day to day. Entry to the fort costs €1 per person. Inside are a collection of boards ridden by notable big wave riders, some of them the worse for wear. A variety of cafes are in the square on the point above. Traffic can be intense if driving so be prepared.
